Home > Lucynt and Connecting Realities Benefiting Residents

At The Ohio Masonic Communities there are three elements that make the memory support program unique – things that make great memory care truly exceptional. Connecting Realities, our memory support approach, is a three-pronged philosophy that focuses on staff training, technology, and physical space. The memory support program is purpose-built to provide the best experience and quality of life for residents, as well as for their loved ones.

In our Pathways Memory Support Neighborhoods, Connecting Realities involves several unique technologies. The technologies are all focused on connecting with residents in their reality, providing them with a supportive environment that can reduce their feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression. Some of the current technology being used includes Cara’s Kennel, robotic pets that can provide comfort and support mental and emotional wellbeing, and iN2l, a computer-based system that provides independence and a sense of purpose.

Another technology that’s part of Connecting Realities, and used in the Pathways Memory Support Neighborhoods, is a Lucynt Table. At first glance, it may look like it’s just a regular table in the middle of the room with a projector shining down on it. But as soon as it turns on, it doesn’t take long to see what makes it so special.

Sensors make the table interactive as residents play different games. As different games show up and residents reach out to touch things, the table senses their movement and is responsive. In some of the games, there are various pictures covered by different items such as flowers, leaves, or bubbles; residents brush away all of the items to reveal the photo beneath. It helps improve hand-eye coordination and provides physical activity, mental stimulation, and socialization – but as residents play it brings them to life. Sometimes, it even sparks memories like past travels, favorite flowers, or stories about their career or family. The Lucynt table can be used to connect with residents in their reality and provide them with an environment where they can thrive.

The Lucynt tables at The Ohio Masonic Communities were made possible thanks to the Rose Society’s Grand Duke and Duchess Matthew and Diane Gloor, through their support of The Ohio Masonic Communities Foundation and their efforts to raise awareness and funds on our behalf throughout the state. The Ohio Masonic Communities is continually looking for new technologies and opportunities to enhance programming to improve residents’ quality of life.
